This wonderful three-week advanced outdoor leadership program is the ultimate wilderness experience. Enjoy backpacking and sea kayaking on a trip through the most remote wilderness in the lower forty-eight states. This trip is open to both returning Wilderness Venturers and to new students who have completed the ninth grade and up.
 Backpack the Teton Wilderness
Our journey begins on Togwotee Pass at the southern tip of the beautiful South Absaroka mountain range. We then trek through the stunningly beautiful Teton Wilderness, high along the Continental Divide, passing by azure alpine tarns and flower filled meadows to the headwaters of the Yellowstone River. This vast and magnificent wilderness will afford us opportunities to see an amazing variety of wildlife unavailable on any other program for young adults. Imagine the prospect of seeing two species of bears, moose, elk, deer, big horn sheep, and wolves as well as a stunning variety of bird life, including bald eagles, osprey, White Pelicans, and Trumpeter swans. There is no other wilderness quite like this. In this incomparable setting, we値l learn a wide variety of advanced outdoor and peer leadership skills. Our curriculum will cover map and compass use, campsite selection, route finding, basic wilderness first aid, zero-impact camping and backcountry cooking. Most importantly, we値l learn how to work and live as a team. On the seventh day, we値l be re-supplied by horse packer, with fresh food before we begin our gradual descent of the famous Yellowstone River. The Thoroughfare, as this spectacular area is known, provides unrivaled opportunities for fly fishing. Sea Kayak Yellowstone Lake
On the twelfth day, we値l pick up our ocean touring kayaks on Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park. At 136 square miles, it is the largest body of fresh water over 7,000 feet in the lower forty-eight states. Our six day journey through the pristine southeast and south arms of Yellowstone Lake will take us through some of the most remote and rewarding wilderness our continent has to offer. Wildlife viewing will continue to be superb and mountain scenery spectacular as we glide through this pristine body of water in our sea-worthy crafts. Our trip concludes back in Jackson, where we値l celebrate our accomplishments with our customary banquet.
Important Information: This Advanced Outdoor Leadership program offers everything found in other nationally known outdoor leadership schools with one notable exception: Our leaders eat, sleep, and live with our groups on a twenty-four hour basis in order to enhance safety and better facilitate group interaction.
All the major components of this trip have been offered by us over the past thirty-five years.
